Voting is now open for a new chair at Derby and Derbyshire Local Medical Committee (DDLMC).

Two candidates have been nominated for the position and current elected DDLMC committee members are asked to cast their vote before Friday, 27 February.

The successful candidate will be announced at a DDLMC committee meeting on Thursday, 5 March.

The two candidates are:

  •  Dr Louise Clarke, GP at Parkside Surgery, Alfreton and Arch Primary Care Network (PCN) Area Representative on DDLMC

  • Dr Weronika Tobiasiewicz, GP at Littlewick Medical Centre, Ilkeston and Erewash Primary Care Network (PCN) Area Representative on DDLMC

Dr Clarke is passionate about representing, protecting and championing general practice at a time of significant change, and she brings a strong track record of advocacy.

She said: “Increasing bureaucracy, GP substitution, below-inflation funding and an ill-considered ‘left shift’ to primary care threaten our profession.

“As chair, I will represent Derby and Derbyshire GPs locally, interfacing with the new ICB, and nationally - ensuring our voices are heard, respected and acted upon.”

Dr Tobiasiewicz said at a time of unprecedented pressure, the DDLMC needs visible and inclusive leadership.

She added: “I’m a salaried GP representing a growing part of our workforce. Quality Improvement and Aspiring Clinical Leaders fellowships have given me a good understanding of the wider NHS and enabled me to build professional relationships across the system and gain insight into the complex interfaces between providers and the importance of effective GP representation.

“I will listen to you and advocate for all GPs across Derbyshire.”

The position of DDLMC chair has become vacant following the announcement that the current chair, Dr Merryl Watkins will be retiring from the role.

Existing committee members have received instructions on how to cast their vote.
