GP Peer Review for referrals - letter to NHS England and CCGs
You will have recently been contacted by the CCG regarding GP peer review in practice. This initiative comes via NHSE who are putting pressure on CCGs to implement peer review as a cost-cutting exercise.
It is in the opinion of the LMC that this process is not only flawed, but harmful. For an excellent summary of the issues, please read this blog by GPC’s Dr Andrew Green.
Derby and Derbyshire LMC Committee met on Thursday 7th September 2017. During that meeting there was an overwhelming vote in favour of rejecting this peer review scheme. We are therefore informing practices that there is no obligation to sign up to this unfunded and non-contractual scheme.
The letter that DDLMC have written to NHSE, CCG Clinical Chairs and GPC regarding this is above. Please contact the LMC with any queries.
