Meet the DDLMC Members

The elected members and officers of Derby and Derbyshire LMC remain at the heart of the organisation. Acting under the elected members’ direction, the LMC liaises, engages and negotiates with and between NHS North Midlands, Public Health, Commissioning Managers, Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) and GP Practices.

Immunisation Update

At a recent immunisation training event practices were informed they should be manually recording vaccine fridge temperatures twice daily.

This is contrary to both Public Health England and CQC advice which advocates once daily.

The LMC asked Sarah Mayfield, Screening and Immunisation Manager PHE, for confirmation and have received the following response which confirms that once daily recording is sufficient.

‘It has always been best practice to record and monitor fridge temperatures twice daily, however this is not mandated and recent guidance has erred towards once daily, knowing the pressures that practices are under.

I will ensure that our team gives a consistent message out regarding this at training events.’

Recruitment is Tough!

Whether you are searching for a new GP partner, salaried GP, ANP or Practice Manager there are too few applicants and too many practices fighting for the best candidates. We frequently get asked by practices; 'how can we recruit?', so we have compiled this resource pack to help practices navigate their way to recruitment success.

GP Career Support Pack

As part of GP retention efforts, NHS England, RCGP and the BMA have developed a GP Career Support Pack that sets out support available at different stages of a GP’s career (e.g. first five, mid-career, nearing retirement, taking a career break and / or needing extra support). The pack is intended to signpost GPs to support available throughout their career with a view to supporting their career and life choices.

NHSE have liaised with the Responsible Officer network in preparing this material, which is also being made available to GP appraisers. GPs are encouraged to liaise with their responsible officer team usually via the appraisal lead to obtain further advice and support on the initiatives and schemes set out in the pack.

The national pack is available for download on the NHS England website here.

Any questions on the GP Career Support Pack can be directed to england.primarycareworkforce@nhs.net.

GP Retention Scheme - BMA

As of June 2018, around 295 GPs across England had joined the GP Retention scheme giving them the flexible working options they need to enable them to remain in practice. This scheme could be helpful for a range of GPs, including those who need time to care for family members, those wanting to reduce their hours as they approach retirement or GPs who want to receive educational and development support after a period of absence. In these cases it is worth seriously considering joining this scheme. You can watch this video interview with two GPs explaining how the scheme has helped them to continue practising.
