Representation

Derby and Derbyshire Local Medical Committee (LMC) has a major role to play in the provision of primary care and offers a unique position of influence within the NHS.

With nearly 100 years of corporate intelligence and memory

Derby and Derbyshire LMC serves as the link between levy paying GPs and their sole national negotiating body (GPC).

GPC is a standing committee of the BMA, with 86 members (43 of whom are directly elected representatives of LMCs).

GPC meets monthly and is guided by policy decisions determined by the LMC Annual Conference of Representatives of LMCs.

More than 300 LMC representatives from across the country attend annual and special conferences to debate motions which reflect local GP concerns and aspirations.

Individual GPs can influence policy through the LMC.

Resolutions are referred to the GPC to consider and implement.

In this way the LMC represents the interests of levy paying GPs as expressed through conference decisions.

Derby and Derbyshire LMC is in good position to challenge and bargain with the NHS Area Team, CCGs and Public Health when necessary, to obtain what the LMC believes is an appropriate and fair settlement for GPs, individually and collectively.
On an operational level, liaison with The Area Team, CCGs, Public Health and their respective Commissioning Managers takes place continuously between the LMC Secretariat and Officers.

Derby and Derbyshire LMC Secretariat and Officers also participate in strategic discussions with the NHS Area Team, CCGs and Public Health.

Derby and Derbyshire LMC actively encourages GPs and Practice Managers to maintain regular contact with the office, to keep the LMC up to date with issues and concerns that impact on GPs personal, professional and business matters.
