Overview
Asthma is now one of the commonest long term disorders with an estimated 5.4 million sufferers in the UK, the majority of who experience regular symptoms. Improved care could avoid an estimated 75% of hospital admissions and prevent at least 90% of deaths.
The COPD National Strategy Document stresses the importance of health care professionals understanding the risk factors for development of COPD and offering suitable interventions and management of those individuals.
This one day will provide a brief overview of diagnosis, symptoms and management of both Asthma and COPD. There will also be a discussion on the latest inhalers and cost effective prescribing.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the session delegates will:
Have an update on the diagnosis and management of Asthma based on the current BTS/SIGN national guidelines and COPD as per NICE guidelines
Have a good understanding of the new inhalers and how they work
Be able to give Personal Asthma Action Plans and COPD Self Management Plans to their patients
