DAILY COVID-19 BRIEFING DDLMC – 04.05.2020

JOINT DDLMC/ GPA / GPTF / DCHS COVID RESPONSE TEAM

NATIONAL UPDATES

PCN DES. The letter from Simon Stevens on 29th April 2020 about the proposed contractual change to the PCN DES, bringing forward the Care Homes Specification from October to May has now been replaced with a far more appropriate approach that recognizes most practices/PCNs are already working towards this. The letter (attachment #1) from Nikki Kanani outlines that there is no longer suggestions of bringing forward the DES requirements and instead there is a focus on working together, including with LMCs, on doing what we reasonably can to support both our patients and our colleagues in care homes at this critical time.

We are awaiting full confirmation of the Care Homes spec and associated funding as there has been a few U-turns nationally!

In our fortnightly LMC Practice Manager webinar, we will host a special section on PCN DES for PMs, PCNs and any Clinicians wishing to join the debate prior to DES sign up.

Please be aware that PHE has neither validated nor approved any tests so far as none have been proven to work as needed. Practices are strongly advised not to buy any tests unless validated and approved by PHE.

Local HCW testing and self-portal testing. The CCG confirmed that alongside the national portal , the local HCW process of emailing the CCG testing mailbox still applies and have ample testing capacity at Proact and Toyota sites.

Home testing kits and sampling. The MHRA have updated information about home testing kits and home sampling on the guidance page on COVID-19 tests and testing kits for the public and professional users. The national briefing The UK coronavirus testing programme, has warned that some rapid tests could be misleading , by providing inaccurate or inconsistent results, potentially putting those tested and those around them at risk.
