LMC BUYING GROUP
News | LMC Buying Group (lmcbuyinggroups.co.uk)
In the last few years, there have been many changes to the flu vaccine market in terms of providers, cohorts and types of vaccine.
The 2023-24 season will see further changes as MASTA will not be supplying flu vaccines to the GP market next year. This will leave only three providers: CSL Seqirus, Viatris (formerly Mylan) and Sanofi.
Our role in this upcoming flu season has been liaising with the providers to collate vaccine information and the terms offered by each provider such as sale or return, reserves, and early delivery. We are then able to share this information with our members, so you feel confident placing your orders, and knowing you have secured the delivery dates to suit your practice.
Sanofi have decided not to share information with us for the 2023-24 season but we have collated the information from CSL Seqirus and Viatris. You’ll need to login to view all the details on the Flu Vaccines page.
All Derby & Derbyshire levy paying practice can sign up to the LMC Buying group.
Buying Group membership is completely free and there is no compulsion to use all our suppliers. We do the hard work associated with finding the most competitive suppliers in cost and customer service, so we save you time as well as money on your purchasing!
Although the Buying Group was originally set up to help GP practices save money on the products and services they regularly buy, membership is now also open to GP Federations, Primary Care Networks, Dental Practices, independent pharmacies and other health and social care providers in the UK.
You can click on the boxes below to see an overview of what is available to your sector through the Buying Group. Once registered and logged in you’ll be able to see the sector specific information and offers on the individual supplier pages. WINTER HUB REFERRAL UPDATE – SENT ON BEHALF OF DHU
We have listened to your feedback and have made the below changes;
- The requirement to complete a formal telephone triage by the referring practice has now been removed and practices usual mechanism to screen patients is acceptable.
- Clinical responsibility remains with the referring practice until the patient is seen within the Hub.
- The hub will accept referrals from patients with acute ‘on the day’ symptoms, which includes respiratory, but also the general symptoms/conditions will be seen.
- Current hubs; New Mills, Buxton, Chesterfield, Langwith, Ilkeston, Toton, Derby, Swadlincote. Further sites to be mobilised and rotated.
WELLBEING SURVEY – SENT ON BEHALF OF DDICB
We would be grateful for your help in encouraging you and your staff to complete a short wellbeing survey.
All staff working in primary care are invited to complete a short wellbeing survey by the end of February. This is the sixth and final in a series of surveys, asking respondents to reflect on their personal wellbeing as well as the functioning of their team and their role.
Please do share with all team members – a wide and varied dataset will enable NHS England to continue to develop wellbeing interventions and support for the primary care workforce.
BRIEFING TO BE USED FOR COMMUNICATIONS BY THE LMC AND ICB PRIMARY CARE
Keeping Babies Safe (KBS) is a priority area of work for the Derby and Derbyshire Safeguarding Children’s Partnership (DDSCP) as a response to a number of deaths of babies in unsafe sleep environments or babies being injured or have died from abuse and neglect in Derby and Derbyshire. We know from research that there is a relationship between the inability for a parent/carer to cope with crying and a baby being shaken which will cause significant injury or death. The research on crying tells us the height of crying is between 8-12 weeks.
The KBS strategy promotes key messages are around safer sleep, safe handling and safe space, this underpins the work to keep babies safe and is available on the DDSCP website. Partners from all agencies including the Named GP' s for Safeguarding Children have been working to identify interventions to support families that could make a difference to the safety of babies.

LEARN FROM PATIENT SAFETY EVENTS (LFPSE) SERVICE
A new national NHS Learn from patient safety events service (previously called the patient safety incident management system – PSIMS – during development) is in the final stages of development as a central service for the recording and analysis of patient safety events that occur in healthcare. We have now commenced the public beta stage, where some organisations can begin using the system, instead of the NRLS.
LFPSE is replacing the current National Reporting and Learning System (NRLS) and Strategic Executive Information System (StEIS), to offer better support for staff from all health and care sectors.

DEMENTIA PALLIATIVE CARE PILOT PROJECT
The Derbyshire Dementia Palliative care service are working with NHS England to find ways to improve the care of people with advanced dementia at the end of their lives.
Some Data:
- 10,271 people living with Dementia in Derbyshire
- Approx. 7,500 people are in the advanced stages of dementia and are therefore likely to be within the last year of their life
- There are 647 people across Derbyshire currently that are on both the palliative/supportive care register and the dementia register
- Of those on both registers, 592 have an advance care plan in situ, which demonstrates 91.5% have plans in situ once recognised as needing palliative/supportive care.
- There are potentially 6,853 people living with dementia with unrecognised palliative care needs in the last year of their life.
We have a hypothesis that adding a ‘consider end of life or advanced care planning’ prompt to annual dementia review templates could improve access to care planning and the benefits this will bring.
We are therefore looking for one or two Derbyshire practices willing to help us test this hypothesis (or any other changes to the annual review that may improve outcomes)
